Disable automatic driver updates

If you don’t want to get automatic driver updates, you are in right place.

On Windows 10,the automatic update mechanism is a convenient system that provides maintenance and security patches as well as updates for Microsoft products and device drivers.

Although it enhances maintanance and security,sometimes getting automatic updates causes issues on configuration.

In this post, We will guide you how you can disable automatic driver updates.

How to stop updates for drivers using:Group Policy

1.Open Run command using shortcut Windows key + R

2.Type gpedit.msc and click OK to open the Local Group Policy Editor.

3.Browse the path:

Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update

4.Double-click the Do not include drivers with Windows Update policy.

5.Select the Enabled option.

6.Click Apply.

7.Click OK.

Note:- Your device will continue to receive security and other patches,but driver will be excluded.

If you change your mind and wish to roll back to default setting, Select the Disabled option in the 5th step.


How to stop automatic driver updates using : Registry

1.Open Run command using shortcut Windows key + R

2.Type regedit and click OK to open Registry Editor

3.Browse to the following path:(copy and paste the path in address bar
)

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows

4.Right-Click the Windows folder,Select New and click on Key.

5.Name the key WindowsUpdate and press Enter.

6.Right-Click on created key,select New, and click on DWORD(32 bit) Value.

7.Name the key ExcludeWUDriversInQualityUpdate and press Enter.

8.Double-click the newly created DWORD and edit the value from 0 to 1.

9.Click OK

Note:- Your device will continue to receive security and other updates,but driver will be excluded.

If you change your mind and wish to roll back to default setting,On the step No. 4, inside the WindowsUpdate (folder) key, make sure to right-click the ExcludeWUDriversInQualityUpdate DWORD and select the Delete option.
